I took early retirement, effective 2025-04-19, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Apparently I had opted out of an announcement within CDC, but I opted back in and word went out today. I am grateful that I had the free choice and that I could accept it. I don’t take for granted that others have been unlawfully terminated or had the option but couldn’t take it.
I had been contemplating early retirement and a second career for several years. This moved up my timeline (and threw in some social chaos). So I don’t have anything specific lined up, but I do hope to pursue teaching math, statistics, computing, and data science to high schoolers, undergraduates, or graduates.
For now, I’m working on writing and sharing that writing. My most salient themes seem to be learning and service. I can work with that.
